The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

The Operational Risk Management (ORM) team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective operational risk management programs throughout the company, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes.
The objective of the ORM Governance team is to develop, oversee and strengthen the organization’s ORM framework to ensure that governance structures, policies, and procedures are robust, effective, and align with regulatory requirements and best practices.
ORM Governance is looking for a Manager of ORM Transformation who will help set the strategy and execution of the transformation of the Operational Risk Management framework for the enterprise. This is a high visibility opportunity that includes working with cross functional stakeholders across the enterprise including several senior leaders.
The Manager, Operational Risk Management (ORM), Transformation will:
- Play a significant role in developing strategy and driving execution of transformation of operational risk across the enterprise
- Run initiatives within Program Management Office to transform the organization
- Contribute to plans related to remediation of Matters Requiring Attention (MRAs)
- Create material for periodic updates and presentations to Board, Executive Committee, BU Presidents and several senior stakeholders
- Manage a robust communication plan to keep relevant stakeholders at different levels informed, obtain buy-in, receive inputs and remove roadblocks as relevant
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry best practices, and lead regulatory engagement, and provide oversight of processes to monitor, evaluate and integrate regulatory changes into OR framework & trainings
- Regularly evaluate the risk governance framework’s effectiveness, identifying improvement opportunities and ensuring implementation of enhancements
- Collaborate across cross-functional stakeholders, bringing them along and ensure comprehensive engagement in initiatives and projects
- Be a thought leader with a proactive mindset – align stakeholders, assess risks and escalate or devise mitigation strategies, think through interdependencies, etc.
- Manage OR technology/systems and contribute to an innovation strategy
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of experience in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function) and understands critical operational risk management lifecycle activities)
- Project management skills and experience
- Strong relationship building skills and ability to effectively collaborate and work with stakeholders across groups, geographies and with varying backgrounds
- Experience driving transformational change across the enterprise
- Knowledge of regulatory changes and industry best practices, leading regulatory engagement and providing oversight of processes to monitor, evaluate and integrate regulatory changes into operational risk framework and trainings
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate independently in a highly complex matrixed environment
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
